J&K Ross - Mezzanine Floor Review

J&K Ross

Chris Ross – the Principal of J&K Ross/ARC-BAN – Mezzanine Floor Review

“Working with Simple mezzanines was really very easy, they were attentive from the word go and willing to discuss changes that we found we needed as the plan progressed. The work was started and finished on time and to exact specification, the site was left clean and tidy when they finished, I would highly recommend them.”

Simple mezzanines recently completed a tranche of 8 small storage floors with W/C enclosures below, at a new commercial estate in Herts.

Each floor was around 30 square metres and the main contractor decided to incorporate them in order to allow tenants to bring the facilities to the front of the unit as opposed to siting them in the rear corner as per typical new estate builds – we encouraged the developer to see a scenario whereby visitors might be welcomed into a stand alone reception created around a mezzanine – thus utilising space above, as opposed to creating a reception area which wasted vertical space, had no access to rest facilities, and which relied upon the structural properties of a proprietary partition and ceiling system for stability, as opposed to ‘borrowing’ much greater stability from our new mezzanine structure!

Works were completed in four weeks and two of the new tenants are now proposing to have fully glazed walls installed to enclose the area below mezzanine, with high quality partitions above creating high quality, stable and secure customer receptions and meeting spaces – Simple Mezzanines anticipated this and designed the floors with deflection values which lent themselves to the introduction of office walls but with typical storage capacities too!

When Torque Logistics extended their retail logistics hub at Wakefield, they called on Simple Mezzanines to manufacture and install a three tier floor totalling around 7500 square metres.

Simple Mezzanines had previously provided a smaller single tier floor with fire protection at the client’s Leeds premises, so it was an easy decision on their part to re-engage with the same supplier.

The Wakefield floor was designed over three tiers – each with concertina loading gates, 2m tall mesh panel handrailing and tower staircases serving all three levels – it was one of the largest floors installed in the UK during 2018 and Torque brought their project in on time!

Simple Mezzanines are delighted to provide 7500m three tier floors, but we’re equally delighted when you entrust the task of supplying and installing your 7.5m single tier floors to us as well!

Simple Mezzanines recently designed and installed a new external escape staircase at Bewdley Museum, to allow guests using their wedding venue to exit safely via a secondary route if ever the need arises.

The existing staircase was over 100 years old and did not meet the criteria for modern escape stairs – it was too steep, parts were degraded to a worrying degree and the structure simply didn’t meet the standards which Wyre Forest District Council expect of their public buildings!

The museum occupies a very old building with limitations in place as far as what can be introduced into the space – the yard which the stairs exit into has an old brick ‘slab’ and is entirely enclosed – the thoroughfare immediately adjacent to the yard is used by the public to move between the Tourist centre and the museum gardens and concessions, so Simple Mezzanines had very limited space into which the new stair could be sited, however the desired solution was arrived at quickly in tandem with the museum management and the installation was effected speedily and without impacting upon the ease at which members of the public could safely pass through the space!
